“Anxious minds full of sticky stuff around self-acceptance, pleasing and striving for perfection. Pressured bodies behind flimsy layers of make-up and halo lit screens. But, don’t you worry. EMOPIG91 is always here for you. Just for you.” - EMOPIG91 a.k.a. Anna Frijstein's alter-ego
“I often find myself simultaneously attracted and repulsed by YouTube and other social videos full of ASMR (Autonomous sensory meridian response), make-up tutorials, seduction, consumption, waste, and destruction. Experiencing whispering voices, slicing food, and the tapping of manicured nails claiming to be cures for anxiety and sleeplessness. But, are these actually symptoms or even causes for the unease some were seeking such soothing for? As a performance artist, I find social video creators e.g. ‘vloggers’ very fascinating. I keep asking myself what really lies beneath this neediness to constantly perform, be seen and listened at. Even by all those unknown to us many screens apart.”
